Natalie Bakery

So as I exited the subway onto Grand I was greeted by a brand new bakery titled (in giant block letters I might add) NATALIE BAKERY. Can you believe it!? In the heart of China town, there I am. I mean I had only been there once before, I can't believe they decided to name the place after me. They must have remembered the tip I left them. And by tip I mean high-five, because they sure knew how to make a pork bun.

Spice

I love you Spice. I mean it. You're the best.
This adorable, dimly lit, sexy lil spot near Union Square is the perfect date spot or post-movie (next to the theater) eatery around. The menu is full of amazing appetizers like the warm duck lettuce wraps and huge entrees that could be easily split- but trust me, after your first bite- you will not want to share! My favorite dish is the drunk man noodle. It is equal parts sweet, spicy, savory and so satisfying. The gooey, eggy noodles taste too good to be true. And for only $10 it could not be any sweeter. They also have great happy hour deals on fun cocktails like pomegranate mojitos.
I'm going back tomorrow for lunch. And maybe dinner.

Melt

I ate brunch at Melt in Park Slope, Brooklyn this weekend. The food was farm fresh and delicious! The chef was a previous Top Chef competitor, Mark Simmons, who was not only fun to look at but also very skilled at his craft. Between my friends and I, we tried the Tofu BLT, the wild mushroom and asparagus omelet and the burger. A well balanced selection to test what was coming out of the kitchen- the verdict- A+
The restaurant name comes from the idea of melting different types of cuisines together and creating a fusion of spices, flavors and cultures. Basically, a melt in you mouth type place! Yum.

Obao

Obao is a new Thai restaurant that opened 2 weeks ago on the UES. It is a small, cozy restaurant with delicious authentic Thai dishes. The menu is small but everything looks yummy- the kind of place where you can't order wrong. We ordered the grilled chicken and spicy beef fried rice. Everything was fresh and delicously spicy and we finished every last bite. The chef gave us complimentary fried spring rolls to start which were crunchy little bites of heaven. The sauce was so good that we saved it for our main courses. Because the food had such a kick we asked for some sort of milk or smoothie and they came up with a jackfruit smoothie (that was also complimentary!) which we were fighting over down to the last sip. Everything was delicious and tasted so healthy. I can't wait to go back.

Plastic

I read in article in the NY Times last week about breast cancer and possible links to the plastic tupperware that we use. Go through your stash at home and throw away any with numbers 3,6, or 7 on the bottom (unless they say "BPA Free"). When they are put through the dishwasher or microwave, chemicals can leach out of the plastic. These chemicals are dangerous and have a possible connection to cancer. The safe ones are 1,2,4, and 5. Even though these are safer I would avoid putting any in the microwave.
Just a heads up!
